  The world’s 6 most relaxing beaches (27/07/2018 11:16:24)
Unless you’re lucky enough to be a professional scuba or surf instructor, a day on the beach is pretty far removed from the daily grind. So a beach holiday is one of the best options for guaranteed escapism and these are the six best beaches for relaxation, according to global travellers.

Mangawhai, New Zealand

While New Zealand’s South Island is admittedly one of the world’s most popular destinations for adrenaline junkies, don’t let that put you off if you’re after a relaxing beach holiday. The township of Mangawhai in Mangawhai Harbour has one of the highest-rated beaches for relaxation. You can choose between a surf beach on one side and a gentle harbour swim on the other, or charter a boat to float further off the coast. Spend the morning on the beach and follow it up with a brunch at Bennetts in town, a Mediterranean-inspired cafe with a courtyard and gelato shop. Tall Trees B&B has bedrooms that open onto the patio and the beautifully-pruned garden.

Chao Lao Beach, Thailand

Close to the border with Cambodia, the golden, wide sands and surf of Chao Lao Beach are much more slow-paced and authentic than Thailand’s more developed coastal resorts. Spend a few days swimming, sunbathing, feasting on fresh seafood marinated in chili and lime, or hiking trails through the area’s inland mangroves. The highly-rated Baan Vitamin Sea has its own private beach area for added peace and relaxation.

Santa Fe, Philippines

Santa Fe is a small town In the southern part of Bantayan Island, one of the Philippines’ most mellow tropical havens. Almost all the traffic you’ll see is children on bicycles, the people are friendly, the sand is brilliantly white, and dilapidated, lantern-lit beach huts make a memorable setting to watch the sun go down. For the raw beauty of a hut on the beach, combined with the luxury and comfort of a good hotel room, stay at Amihan Beach Cabanas.

Varca, India

Varca is a Goan fishing village, with rows of boats lining the long beach and fresh seafood is a local staple. Order a signature Goan fish and coconut curry served in a wooden shack amid palm trees and looking out to sea. The beach is also relatively quiet and free from hawkers, while the town is a small collection of brightly-coloured houses almost obscured by coconut, mango and banyan trees. Just a short walk from the beach, Majestic Beach Comfort has private beach cabins with bathrooms and air con, as well as an outdoor pool where you can sip on sunset cocktails.

Monterrico, Guatemala

The tiny beach town of Monterrico mostly attracts visitors from July through till October, when you can watch baby turtles make their way across the beach and into the sea after hatching. But even turtle season is comparatively quiet for a paradisiacal beach spot. With volcanoes in the background, ash-coloured sand and big waves, it’s an unusual, sedate tropical hideaway. Just a few minutes' walk from a nature reserve where you can interact with baby turtles, Dos Mundos Pacific Resort also has its own private beach and outdoor pool.

Oxnard, USA

California is known for its relaxing qualities and just an hour up the coast from LA, Oxnard is often a gateway to the Channel Islands, a National Park archipelago rich in wildlife and natural beauty. Embark on a dolphin-spotting boat trip to these islands but don’t forget to explore Oxnard’s Downtown, with heritage houses, churches and turn-of-the-century streets. For maximum relaxation, stay at the highest-rated accommodation in Oxnard, Homewood Suites.
